My story

Oh hello! I’m Heidi, owner and Cake Designer at Cascadia Cake Design. A little about me: I started my professional baking journey in 2001 after dabbling as a hobby baker and cake decorator. I made the leap from working in the corporate world to enrolling in pastry school.

I began working as a Pastry Chef in some of Seattle’s notable restaurants; Cafe Campagne, Ray’s Boathouse, and Gourmondo Catering to name a few. My time in professional kitchens was invaluable. Developing menus and recipes became second nature to me. But I missed the artistry that comes with designing cakes.

In 2016 I took a step back from running the pastry kitchen so that I could direct my focus and energy on cake design. I researched new techniques and trends, and put those into practice. I started with a few cakes for friends to get back into the swing of things. My friends told their friends. Their friends referred me to their friends. In 2020, Cascadia Cake Design officially became a business.

Flavor is Everything

As a Seattle native, I strive to use flavor combinations that are true to the Pacific Northwest, using local and sustainable ingredients whenever possible. Flavor is very important to me. I want the memory of the cake not only to be the design, but the amazing taste. No one wants to eat bad cake.
